Long Leaseholders

The law relating to long residential leases is complex and contained in various different Acts of Parliament. We can offer help with lease enfranchisement and assist if you want to extend the length of your residential lease term.

Our commercial property solicitors have considerable experience in dealing with the various issues that can arise including the following:

  • Lease term extensions under the 1993 Leasehold Reform Act
  • Purchase of the freehold of a block of flats by the tenants (collective enfranchisement) whether by informal agreement or under the formal procedure set out in the 1993 Leasehold Reform Act
  • Purchase of the freehold of your leasehold house in accordance with the procedures laid down in the 1967 Leasehold Reform Act
  • Ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1988 on a sale of a freehold property subject to leases (which in most cases will require the Landlord to first offer the freehold to the leaseholders).
  • Providing advice generally on the terms of your lease and on issues such as service charges.

In the case of disputes between landlord and tenant our dispute resolution department will be able to help.

Our residential conveyancing department can help with the sale of any residential leasehold property.
