Green-fingered solicitors return to see thriving garden in action

Green-fingered Nottingham solicitors were honoured guests at a garden party hosted by staff and residents at a home for homeless people.

Staff at Nottingham law firm Actons, began working with homelessness charity Framework more than two years ago to engage in a distinct project of their own.  They funded and delivered on an ambitious project to transform the over-grown and underused garden at 32 Bentinck Road – a registered care home for older, alcohol dependent men.

On Wednesday (August 24) they returned to see the garden – complete with vegetable patch, abundant flowers and a sheltered gazebo – in its finished state. Attending the annual service family fun day and garden party, they mingled with residents, staff and guests.

Actons explained: “We wanted to do something that engaged staff at all levels of the business, so this was the perfect project for us. We raised the money between ourselves and we also played a role in doing some of the practical work too. It was an initiative that really brought people together, and one that we really enjoyed. It’s really satisfying to come back on a lovely sunny day and to see people enjoying the garden in its finished state.”

Fundraising challenges by Actons included raising £4,000 completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

Framework Operations Director Michael Leng, added: “This is a great example of how a local business can engage with our work and make a real difference to the people we support. Before Actons got involved, this garden was over-grown, unappealing and underused. It is now treasured by staff and residents, and also provides a focal point for constructive activities. This has been a really impressive project and I thank Actons for their involvement.”
