Caroline Bowler, member of the Acton Equine Law Team organised a sponsored horse ride around Blidworth Bottoms, Sherwood Forest on Monday 13 April 2009 to raise funds for The Blue Cross Britain's Pet Charity.
Thankfully the weather was very kind to us - very pleasant sunshine but not too warm for the horses! Most people who had planned to participate did so - there were 9 of us in the end. We decided to split up into several groups in order to avoid any stampedes in case one of the horses got excited! We also had a number of followers on foot...with dogs in tow! A few people also preferred to ride their bikes!
A good day was had. Two of the riders got lost in the forest and we had to wait for them for an hour - you will see the culprits on the attached photographs (the two that are actually pictured riding the horses).
The only problem that arose was that the refreshment van was not stationed in the horse box park and we were all starving when we returned from the ride! Rest assured, the horses didn't go wanting with plenty of hay and carrots!
I would like to say a big thank you to all those who participated in the event (horses and dogs included) and to all those who have sponsored either myself or any of the other participants. You will no doubt be aware that a large amount of pets, in particular horses, have fallen victim to the credit crunch. The Blue Cross is just one of the animal charities that takes in and provides care for abandoned and unwanted animals.
