Elizabeth Judson, a Trainee Solicitor at Actons, took part in the 10km Great Manchester Run on 17 May 2009 to raise money for Christies. She completed the run in around 58 minutes and has raised in the region of £400.
For those of you who aren't aware, the Christie is one of Europe's leading cancer hospitals and is located in Withington on the outskirts of Manchester. We are very lucky to have such a facility in the UK.
The proceeds raised through participation in the Great Manchester Run will be directed to the Cancer Appeal Fund. Ambitious plans are underway to transform services including a new £35 million patient treatment centre which will provide the biggest Phase I clinical trials unit in the world and an expanded world class chemotherapy facility.
On a personal note, Elizabeth’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago and was treated at the Christie. The excellent care that she received, whilst traumatic, meant that she successfully fought cancer and now lives a full (if not fuller) life than before. Elizabeth has chosen to raise money for Christies so that they can continue to provide similar care to others and to carry out research into treatments for cancer.
