Trainee Solicitor FAQs

We understand that you’ll want to invest time and effort into completing your application form. To help, we’ve put together some frequently asked questions and answers.

What will help my application stand out?

We receive a lot of applications from students with excellent academics, memberships and work experience. We’d really like to know what makes you interesting. It’s also important to demonstrate that you’re a well-rounded applicant, you understand our business and are able to articulate why you’ll be a great addition to our team.

Is there a word limit for applications?

Whilst there is no word count limit for any section on the application, we’d encourage you to keep your answers as short and concise as possible – above all make it interesting!

The degree requirement is 2.1, would you accept 2.2?

You are very welcome to submit an application and explain how any relevant work experience and/or mitigating circumstances makes you standout.

What’s the closing date for applications?

We will accept any application sent until midnight on 31 March 2022.

Are you able to guarantee that I’ll be offered a NQ role on qualification?

Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee that. Any offers for NQ roles will be dependent on a number of factors including work levels a future plans for the team and wider business. We do however have a strong track record of offering NQ roles and retaining trainee solicitors on qualification when circumstances allow. For example in 2021 we offered roles to all NQs who took up roles in our Property, Private Client and Employment teams.

What seats are available?

Depending on availability, we’re usually able to offer seats in Corporate & commercial, Employment law & HR, Litigation, Insolvency, Personal injury, Private client and Property.

Will I have input into which seats I move to?

Absolutely, but it will also depend on availability and workloads within our teams.

Of course, you may have your own question about the process or what it’s like to work at Actons.  Please drop us a line with any question you have. You can contact Matt Coleman, Practice Manager or Gordon Monaghan, Training Principal.
