Thanos Piponides – Trainee Solicitor

Thanos Piponides

Started a training contract with Actons in September 2018.

Why did you apply for a training contract with Actons?

Actons is a well-known firm in Nottingham with a history that dates back over 200 years. When it was my time to tackle the training contract application process, Actons caught my attention as being a firm that is reputable locally and offers high-quality work to its trainees, in an open and friendly environment. Also, Actons offers a variety of practice areas and the opportunity to advise an enviable list of clients. I knew this would assist in my personal development and my goals of becoming a qualified solicitor.

What path did you take to become a trainee?

I studied Law and Business at the University of Lincoln and after graduating, I enrolled onto the LPC at Nottingham Law School. During my time as a student, I was always seeking ways to further enhance my CV. I was able to secure a number of work placements within law firms and barristers chambers, however I also took part in non-legal work to broaden my skill-set. Prior to joining Actons, I worked as a Paralegal for another firm where I gained a lot of practical experience in advance of my training contract.

Describe your experience as a trainee at Actons?

I am currently in my first seat at Actons working with our Commercial Property team. The team were very welcoming to me and always make time if I have any questions relating to a particular task. The work itself has been engaging, challenging and rewarding and I have carried out my first completion! Actons also has a collaborative culture and the team as a whole regularly come together to support sponsored charities and the local community.

What advice can you offer applicants for training contracts at Actons?

My advice would be to focus on building your CV to showcase the set of skills you possess. It is important to demonstrate that you are able to stand out from the crowd, offering something unique that is personal to you.
