We’re proud to be an independent law firm in Nottingham. It’s what makes us increasingly unique in the local legal market.
So, if you want all of the unique benefits that come from working in a smaller business, then have a read and get in touch!
Our People
We have a superb team of people at Actons who work together to help each other, and our clients to succeed.
Closer Work Relationships
You won’t just be another colleague or a number on a spreadsheet. With just over 50 people in total, our close-knit teams mean that we have closer working relationships. This leads to more interactions with each other, fostering that sense of camaraderie and teamwork – one of our core values.
Increased Responsibility
There are often ways to take on more responsibility and develop your career with Actons. This can lead to a broader skill set and a more varied and interesting work experience.
Visibility and Recognition
You’ll find it much easier to stand out and be recognised for your contribution – definitely a name, not a number. With smaller teams, your individual efforts are much more visible, and potentially leading to development and career growth. We’ve demonstrated this approach, time and time again by recognising real talent and helping them achieve their potential.
Flexibility
We strive to offer colleagues greater flexibility in terms of working hours and place of work, enabling an improved work-life balance wherever possible.
Direct Impact
In a small team it’s important that everyone makes a direct impact to the business – and you’ll be able to easily see the impact you’re having on our business.
Curiosity, Innovation and Creativity
Ask as many questions as you can think of. Just because processes and procedures are a certain way – they don’t always have to be. We’re always open to new ideas, with Innovation being one of our core values. All our colleagues have the freedom to contribute to making improvements to the way we work, for the benefit of colleagues and clients.
Technology
At Actons, safety is our priority. Whether you’re working from the office or remotely, we are committed to ensuring a secure work environment and providing you with the support you need to thrive.
Volunteering
We believe in giving back to the local community in Nottingham. That’s why we offer opportunities for our colleagues to get involved in our Charity of the Year program. Together, we can make a meaningful contribution to society through our firm’s efforts.
Actons – at a glance
We’ve been based in Nottingham, the centre of the East Midlands ever since the firm was founded, over 200 years ago. But amid all that history, so much has changed. We’re a modern, progressive, ambitious law firm on a journey – and we’d love you to join us!
- A leading independent law firm located centrally in Nottingham.
- Over 50 people providing the full range of legal services to organisations and individuals locally and right across the UK.
- We have very experienced people who are a mix of ‘homegrown’ talent, whilst others have joined us with ‘Big Firm’ experience gained from working in large national law firms.
- Member of LawNet – a network of independent UK law firms.
- Member of Eurojuris – an international network of law firms.
- Professionally managed with a commitment to quality – recognised by the LawNet Quality Standard (ISO:9001).
- Ranked in Legal 500.
We work together with organisations and individuals locally and nationally providing a range of solution-based, exceptional legal advice – in plain English, so our clients can concentrate on the things that really matter.
Our long-standing reputation is based not only on providing top-quality legal services – but on developing long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.
We believe Actons is different from a lot of other law firms and we work hard to live up to our four key values:
- Teamwork
Our teams are made up of down-to-earth, talented people who we are all extremely proud of. We work hard to attract and retain like-minded lawyers and business support professionals who have the right personality to fit into our close-knit, friendly team culture. In turn, we’re able to offer people opportunities to work flexibly, promotions, and offer a great work-life balance. - Client focus
We punch well above our weight with the quality of our clients, and we’re very proud of that. By working at Actons, you’ll have the chance to do great quality work for great clients – including some of those included below. We also have a strong focus on marketing and business development, through team and individual marketing plans, believing that everyone has a role to play in attracting and retaining top-quality clients. - Innovation
Our team structure and management culture make it easy for you to make an impact on the business. Whether that’s through suggesting new ways of doing things, or business development activity that’s going to open doors to new opportunities. - Integrity
No law firm doubts their integrity. But we believe that we go a step further. As well as applying the principles of openness, honesty, reasonableness and constructiveness to our client work, that’s also a mainstay of our internal culture.
Our Prominent Location
Our office is based on Regent Street in Nottingham City Centre. All our teams are based at 4-8 Regent Street, where the Victorian façade hides the modern open-plan layout.
A Bit More About Us
Actons is slightly different in its organisational structure as a partnership of limited companies is an alternative business structure or ABS.
Our senior leadership team is made up of Chairman Simon Dakin and Chief Executive Chris Murratt, with all colleagues playing an active part in the firm’s continuing development and growth. In the last twelve months, we’ve also promoted our first two business support professionals to director in Matt Coleman (Director & Chief Operations Officer) and Marc Pegg (Finance Director).
We’re Also Fun!
We run several firm social events throughout the year to bring all our colleagues together. Recently we’ve enjoyed cracking out of escape rooms, bowling, crazy golf, quiz nights, pizza making etc. And our social calendar wouldn’t be complete without the annual New Year party!
