Bride sues travel firm after being poisoned on honeymoon and was ill for 2 years

A woman is suing a travel firm after getting food poisoning from eating an exotic fish whilst on her honeymoon. She was poisoned with a stomach bug which can be life-threatening after eating the large reef fish during her honeymoon.

It is claimed that she suffered a type of food poisoning known as Ciguatera, which is caused by a toxin harmless to fish but which is poisonous to humans. It is heat resistant so cooking the fish will not remove it.

As a result of eating the fish, which is believed to be a red snapper, she suffered stomach upsets, cramps and exhaustion. Whilst her husband recovered quickly, the bride had such crippling stomach pains that she had to have surgery and also suffered depression. She was still suffering with symptoms 2 years later.

She also claims that she is still limited in what she can eat and that the poisoning caused her health problems when she was pregnant.

The bride and groom are suing the holiday firm that arranged the holiday. They are claiming that they are liable because the fish was not tested for toxins by hotel staff and they did not supply fish of satisfactory quality.
