A dog owner has been jailed for 4 months after his Rhodesian Ridgeback attacked a boy. The boy required 170 stitches and he only survived due to the dog being wrestled off of him.

A dog owner has been jailed for 4 months after his Rhodesian Ridgeback attacked a boy. The boy required 170 stitches and he only survived due to the dog being wrestled off of him.
The owner of the dog admitted failing to control the dog, which was of a breed to hunt lions.
The boy was out helping his mum when the dog jumped over the owner’s fence (who is the boys neighbour) and grabbed his right hand. The boys mum tried to get the dog off his hand and into the house but the dog followed them and attacked the boy’s face.
It was known that the boy’s family were scared of the dog and had asked the owner to fix his fence but he had not done this to a sufficient standard to prevent the dog getting through.
The boy required 170 stitched to his hand, knee, lip and elbow, and will require surgery throughout his life to correct the scaring. He will be left with significant facial scarring for the rest of his life.
The owner pleaded guilty to allowing the dog to enter a place where it injured a person. The owner was sentenced to 4 months in jail and was banned from keeping a dog for 10 years.
