Toddler crushed to death by a defective garden wall

A 3 year old girl was crushed to death on her way home when a five foot concrete block wall fell on her.

The newly constructed wall had inadequate foundations and the mortar used was not strong enough.

She was on her way home from the shops when the wall collapsed. She was pronounced dead within 10 minutes of arriving at the hospital.

The builder responsible had failed to build the wall to a proper standard. He did not seek advice from an expert and unsuccessfully placed warning signs around the wall despite the fact he was building it along a public path.

The builder responsible had failed to build the wall to a proper standard. He did not seek advice from an expert and unsuccessfully placed warning signs around the wall despite the fact he was building it along a public path.

He had placed nearly 15 tonnes of rubble behind the garden wall which put great pressure on the wall, contributing to its collapse.
