Toddler suffers fractured skull after falling from nursery stairs

A nursery in Birmingham allowed toddlers in their care to walk up and down the outside stairs despite knowing that they were unsafe as they were steep and the railing had large gaps through which small children could easily fall.

The stairs were a fire escape that the staff used as another entrance and exit to the nursery.

A 3 year old boy fell head-first through a large gap of the first storey stairs. He was left seriously injured with a fractured skull and had to spend 4 days in hospital and is at risk of permanent damage.

The owner of the nursery even lied to the boy’s parents, saying that he was pushed during a fire drill.
