Eyelash extensions cause severe allergic reaction and blisters

A woman from Essex suffered a severe allergic reaction to the glue used to attach eyelash extensions at a beauty salon.

The lady told the salon that she had never had eyelash extensions before, but she was not offered a patch test to check for allergies to the products used.

She woke up the morning after she had the extensions applied to find her eyes were bloodshot and stinging, so she returned to the salon for advice, only to be told that her reaction was normal.

She woke up the morning after she had the extensions applied to find her eyes were bloodshot and stinging, so she returned to the salon for advice, only to be told that her reaction was normal.

Yet her symptoms worsened with a rash spreading across her face and blisters forming around her eyes. She attended her GP who advised her to return to the salon to have the eyelashes removed, yet the salon refused to do so and told her to remove them herself.

The DIY removal of her lashes took her around 5 hours and the rash and irritation continued to worsen. She was prescribed a steroids and anti-histamines to ease her symptoms which gradually went away after a few weeks.

If you are considering undergoing any type of beauty treatment and are not offered a patch test, make sure you insist on having a patch test so that you avoid suffering any allergic reactions.
