Hair extension dangers

Doctors and hair experts are warning against the use of hair extensions because of the dangerous side effects they can have.

If the extensions weigh too much or are attached too tightly, the strain on the hair follicles causes hair to fall out, also known as Traction Alopecia which can result in permanent damage to the hair and prevent it from growing back.

If the extensions weigh too much or are attached too tightly, the strain on the hair follicles causes hair to fall out, also known as Traction Alopecia which can result in permanent damage to the hair and prevent it from growing back.

Extensions are extremely popular because they make the hair look longer and thicker. They involve real or synthetic hair being weaved, sewed, glued or clipped onto the hair or scalp.

If you have extensions put in, it is vital that your hairdresser uses the type of extensions that are specifically suited for your hair type. Using the wrong type could have hazardous effects such as headaches, bald patches, red, bleeding and sore scalp and matted and breaking hair.

It is recommended that if you use extensions you regularly return to the hairdressers to have the extensions replaced, and ensure you have breaks in between applications or you are likely to be left with bald patches and lose hair.

If you have suffered a hair extension disaster that was not your fault you may be able to make a claim. It is important that you get independent expert legal advice, preferably as soon as possible from one of our specialist lawyers.
