Some recent and planned changes to employment legislation means you need to act now to update policies in your workplace.
From 30 June 2014, the right to request flexible working was extended to cover ALL employees with 26 weeks service and the process for dealing with requests has been changed. Your flexible working policy needs to reflect the changes.
And just to keep you on your toes, coming your way in April 2015 is the introduction of Shared Parental Leave allowing mother and her partner the opportunity to share leave following the birth of the baby, at the same time or separately!
This is likely to be an administrative headache for most employers and applies to the parents of babies born on or after 5 April 2015. So, you do the maths – you need to have a Shared Parental Leave policy in place now to cover those parents who are expecting babies in 9 months’ time.
