Black Friday shoppers got more than they bargained for

On the last Friday in November, Britain took part in a shopping phenomenon that originated in the US – so called “Black Friday”.

Sales took place in supermarkets and retail stores across the country, seeing many items being cut back considerably in price.  In fact it was reported that millions of people took part in shopping in store and online to get their hands on early Christmas presents.

Shopping in store was chaotic and in some stores the crowd was out of control. Injuries were sustained by angry customers pushing and shoving to get their hands on the goods.

It was reported that one woman sustained an injury of a broken wrist as she was crushed, from the impact of the crowd.

The security arrangements in some stores were described as poor. There should have been a sufficient number of security on duty. Police were called to help control the angry customers with many arrests being made for “unreasonable behaviour”.

Stock was seen flying through the air and on the floor creating a dangerous and hazardous environment.  There has been another report of a woman in Manchester who was hit and injured by a falling television. The ambulance were called and she was treated.

We act for a number of people who have suffered injuries from accidents in a supermarket, accidents in shops and other retail stores.  These accidents can involve an injury sustained from an item due to unsafe storage or inadequate placing.  Also an injury from a slip and fall in a shop.
