The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) have introduced changes to the DBS standard and enhanced ID checking guidelines as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
The new guidelines have been introduced to ensure that DBS checks can be carried out during the social distancing measures currently in place and to avoid delays in processing any applications.
The temporary changes below came into force on 19 March 2020 with immediate effect for an unspecified time:
- ID documents are to be viewed over a video link.
- Scanned images of ID documents are to be used in advance of a DBS check being submitted.
- Applicants will be required to present their original ID documents when they first attend their new employment or volunteering role.
The ID checker is no longer required to have original ID documents in their physical possession when checking ID.
