Update to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme or Furlough Scheme has been in place for almost a year and has undergone various changes to meet the ongoing economic needs of UK businesses.

A further update from HMRC now provides some further clarity in respect of employees whose health has been affected by Coronavirus or have childcare responsibilities.

Individuals in this category can (not must) be furloughed if they are unable to work from home or work reduced hours:

  • due to being clinically vulnerable or at the highest risk of severe illness from coronavirus; and/or
  • have caring responsibilities resulting from coronavirus such as childcare due to school closures.

For more information, please see the previous updates here.
