Richard Leman

We are sorry to share the news that our friend and former colleague, Richard Leman, passed away on Friday 13 January 2023.

Our thoughts are with Richard’s family and friends at this very sad time.

Richard joined Actons in the 1960s and after qualifying as a Solicitor was promoted to Partner in the same year, specialising in Insolvency and Commercial Litigation.  Richard was a leading figure in the insolvency market during his career and was one of the country’s first Licensed Insolvency Practitioners.  He nurtured and mentored many colleagues during his career.

Richard became our Senior Partner in 1980 – a role he held for 27 years until 2007.  During his period of leadership he was instrumental in over-seeing the development and expansion of the firm in both size and stature.  Richard helped set up a homeless charity which in due course was one of the two charities that merged to form what is now called Framework. He also acted as a trustee and supported other charities across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Richard retired as a director of the firm in April 2009 although was a Consultant to Actons in the years that followed. He remained a dear friend to many across the firm and was a regular visitor to the office.

Richard was described by clients, colleagues and industry peers alike as dynamic and charismatic.  He was very sociable and will be missed by former clients and colleagues.
