In recognition of her position in the East Midlands insolvency market, our chairman Nicky Calthrop-Owen has again been included in the elite list of East Midlands ‘Leading Individuals’.

Insolvency and corporate recovery – Actons provides a ‘first-class service’ and ‘commercial, pragmatic and practical’ advice. It represented the administrators in a court application, at both first instance and on appeal, to exit the administration via a compulsory liquidation. Nicky Calthrop-Owen, Chris Murratt, Victoria Dunstall, who was promoted to the position of director in 2014, ‘form the backbone of the insolvency department’.

Corporate & commercial: Nottingham & Derby – Actons provides ‘excellent advice at a rate that represents good value’ for its largely owner-managed and SME client base. Highlights included assisting with the establishment of a UK subsidiary, and advising the selling shareholders of a pharmaceutical company. The ‘pragmatic and commercialSimon Dakin and Peter Flowerday, who co-head the team, ‘get the job done’.

Employment – Actons provides a ‘partnership service’ to both employers and senior executives. It handled several unfair dismissal cases in 2014….Nic Elliott, who ‘identifies the best outcome for clients and works to achieve that’.

Personal tax, trusts & probate – Actons advised on the administration of an estate with overseas assets, and handles Court of Protection work.

Commercial property: Nottingham & Derby – Actons advised Nottingham Football Centre on its long lease of sports pitches, and assisted Falch with the lease for its UK premises. Amanda Gordon provides ‘consistently sound advice’.

Commercial litigation – Actons was instructed on a claim for breach of directors’ duties, and in 2014 advised on the termination of a services contract for a dental client. Key clients include Maber Associates and Shredall (UK). Practice head Victoria Dunstall was promoted to the partnership.

Debt recovery Nicky Calthrop-Owen leads the team at Actons, which acts for clients including Killarney Homes and Fisher Hargreaves Proctor. The firm represented the liquidators in obtaining orders for sale against three properties owned by the debtor.
