Harry Georgiou – Solicitor

Harry Georgiou

Harry completed his training contract and qualified as a solicitor in 2019.

Why did you apply for a training contract with Actons?

Having lived and studied in Nottingham, I was always aware of Actons’ excellent reputation. It was noticeable from undertaking further research that Actons see trainees as important for the future and part of the long-term progression of the firm. I was keen to gain experience in a variety of departments in order to ascertain which area of law best suited my skills and interests. Actons was the perfect fit for me.

What path did you take to become a trainee?

I studied Law at Nottingham Trent University. In my third year, I undertook a year-long placement at a law firm in London. This provided invaluable experience and affirmed my desire to pursue a career in Law. Following the completion of my degree, I completed the LLM/LPC  at Nottingham Law School and joined Actons shortly after, having successfully negotiated the selection process.

Describe your experience as a trainee at Actons?

I spent time in Personal Injury, Property, Dispute Resolution and Corporate & Commercial. I thoroughly enjoyed the variation and exposure given to high-level work, whilst working closely with directors and associates. I attended conferences with counsel for high-value personal injury claims, client meetings regarding substantial property transactions and meetings/mediations regarding complex contractual disputes.

I also enjoy taking part in Actons’ events outside of work. I took part in gruelling sporting events for charity such as the Survival of the Fittest event, a 26-mile triathlon and a volunteering day at Flowerpod!

What advice can you offer applicants for training contracts at Actons?

Be specific in why you feel you would be a good fit at Actons.  As well as highlighting any legal experience you may have, also give examples of other experiences which reflect your personality as this is just as important. Finally, try and let your enthusiasm show, whether that be during the application process or at the interview.

How did the training at Actons help you prepare for life as a qualified solicitor?

The fact I was able to spend time in various departments and experience a good variety of work within those departments mean that I was well prepared for qualification. Directors and other supervisors within the departments during my training provided an excellent balance of being supportive but also allowing me to take responsibility in my work for the benefit of my development. This has continued upon my qualification as a solicitor.
