Biography

Nic deals with a broad range of employment law issues towards the contentious end of the spectrum. He regularly advises SME businesses and several larger household names.

He advises on the exit of senior employees and directors, complex sickness absence issues and provides general advice on day to day employee relations.

Nic also runs employee-related investigations, including fraud, discrimination, whistleblowing and grievances. He has a background in psychology and is trained in cognitive interviewing. He also trains internal investigators to conduct investigations taking into account the special risks caused by the employment relationship.

Nic spent time seconded to the HR department of a global retail bank advising on employee relations matters. During that time he ran many bespoke projects designed to increase efficiency and save cost and advised on business protection.

Nic has experience advising clients from SMEs to major corporates in a variety of sectors including retail, further education, and information technology.

He joined Actons in 2012 after 8 years at the international law firm, Wragge & Co (now Gowling WLG). He has specialised in employment law since qualifying as a solicitor in 2006.

Actons advise on a wide range of employment and HR issues for owner-managed businesses and SMEs, as well as household name clients such as Iceland Foods and Bistrot Pierre. The team's key strengths include advising on Employment Tribunals, absence management and providing training. James Symons, who was promoted to director, is 'friendly, calm and incredibly knowledgeable'. Practice head Nic Elliott is an 'engaging partner' and maintains a strong 'rapport' with his clients.

"Nic is an exceptional lawyer with fantastic people skills. He was able to quickly get under the skin of our business, challenge us on how things should be structured legally and delivered documentation that is effective and simple to understand. He brings a wealth of large corporate experience and can apply it to your business whether you are an SME or a larger corporate. I can't ever see us needing to look elsewhere for our employment law needs."
Jonathan English, Managing Director – Skeleton
Nic was able to answer all of our questions in a comprehensive manner and was very informative.
R Ford
